Squad
updates and injury news
Firstly it
is with great pleasure that we can officially welcome Rowland Phillips as
Head Coach of Ebbw Vale RFC. Rowland
is the most successful coach in the league with more trophy wins than any
other. It is a real privilege
to have him on board and we look forward to his input and knowledge
improving us not just as a team but also as a club.
This frees up Christian Loader to wholly concentrate on the set
piece with Matt McCarthy now giving the attack and skills his full
attention.
You may have noticed a few new faces in
the line up last Sunday against Bedwas as there has been a bit of movement
within the squad over the past few weeks with several new faces joining
the Steelmen until the end of the season and fighting for contracts for
next year. We can now confirm that the additions to the squad are as
follows:
Matthew Richards Full Back/ Wing/ Centre (Bridgwater
)
Tom Watkins Winger (Nantyglo)
Morgan Harries Winger (Unattached)
Ben Parry Hooker (
Pontypool
United)
Tristan Mabbutt Flanker (Neath)
Carl Ackland Prop (Unattached)
You may also see a few
players brought in on permit between now and the end of the season as key
positions are targeted to be strengthened game by game.
While we sincerely
welcome to the club this new group of players, we must also acknowledge
and thank the players that have departed or are now playing in other
colours (for various reasons) these are:
Lyndon Johnson
Matthew Edwards
Dale Powell
Mathew Amos
Dai Quinn
Peter Smith (returned from injury but currently on loan to Brynmawr).
The huge list of injuries we sustained early in the season is now easing
with Gareth James, Oliver Halford, Gary Wilkes, Nick Wakely, Matthew
Jeffries and Matt Griffin having shaken off their injuries and taking part
in full training, hoping for selection.
This will also provide a massive boost as competition for places
becomes evident, and hopefully will become a luxury we have yet to
experience this season! There is,
however, still a handfull of players nursing knocks with Lloyd Phillips,
Alex Murphy, Will Jones, Chris Jenkins and Simon Pengelly currently
temporarily sidelined. It is
hoped that they will be fit for selection shortly as they work hard with
our skilled team of physiotherapists and masseurs to aid the recovery
process and get back on the pitch to boost the cause.
