| Following
a disappointing season on the field, it was still a highly enjoyable
evening for the faithful Ebbw Vale supporters' club members to enjoy
alongside many of the squad and coaches.
Winners of the awards were:-
EVRFC Supporters Club Player of the Year -
Rhys Williams
EVRFC Supporters Club Most Promising Player
- Aaron Coundly
Ivor Evans Clubman of the Year – Andrew
Bevan
Ebbw Vale RFC Supporters Club Chairman Iain
"Milo" Swanson said, "This has been a difficult season for
supporters and players alike, but we will all come back with one focus in
September, to regain our Premiership status and to spread the word that
Ebbw Vale RFC is very much alive, kicking and in business.
Rhys Williams has won the player of the
year award for the second successive season which goes to show how highly
he is thought of by Ebbw Vale supporters and how much he puts into his
game. We wish Rhys Williams every success next season and no doubt he will
give the same 100% performance on the field at Cross Keys as he has given
here at Ebbw Vale.
As for Aaron Coundly, well his career is
all in front of him. He may be leaving Ebbw Vale and supporters'
club members will be sad to see him go. He has been outstanding this
season and has given many of the more experienced props in the Premiership
a torrid time. In addition to this, his work rate around the field
in ball carrying and tackling has been to the highest standard. He
will not doubt go on to regional rugby honours with the Dragons and we
hope will step up to one day play for
Wales
. He is very much in the Gethin Jenkins mould and we sincerely wish
him every success in his future rugby career, it has been a pleasure to
have him play for Ebbw Vale and we hope one day he may wear our colours
once again.
The Ivor Evans Clubman of the Year award is
an open award which can be awarded to anyone associated with Ebbw Vale: players,
backroom staff, supporters or even canines! The award was renamed
the "Ivor Evans Clubman of the Year" to remember our good friend
and long time supporter, Ivor, who sadly passed away last year.
As a fitting tribute to Ivor the family have generously donated a large
shield for this award which is to be permanently retained in the clubhouse
as not only a reminder of Ivor but to acknowledge the winners, season by
season.
This year’s recipient, Andrew Bevan, has
shown great commitment to Ebbw Vale for many years now, and “the oldest
winger in town” thoroughly deserves this recognition by supporters for
this accolade.
Many thanks to all who attended the evening
and behalf of all at the
Rugby
Club may I wish good luck and a thank you to our out-going coaches and any
players who have decided to go to pastures new. A special mention
must also be give to our other two Dragons academy players Rhys Jenkins
and James Thomas who have also been outstanding figures in the Ebbw Vale
pack this year. If, like Aaron, they are sent to pastures new then
it would be very remiss of us not to acknowledge them in the same regard
as Aaron, and sincerely wish them every success for their rugby careers.
One thing is for sure: I know all supporters would welcome anyone of the
trio back with open arms!
Thanks for your support through the season,
and see you all soon."
